Pictures to come next week. Sorry, I promised one of our moms at school that I would post this. So I wanted to make sure I did before I forgot over my ROAD TRIP weekend. I will make sure to add more/better pictures when I get back.
I LOVE
maxi skirts! I saw a cute posting on Pinterest with a maxi skirt and I loved
it. When I went to the website she linked the skirt to a pattern. I don’t remember if it was Butterick,
McCall or Simplicity, but one of them. As I looked at the pattern I noticed the
high waist had a zipper for a closure. My husband and I are trying to get
pregnant, and while no one knows when it will happen, I’m trying to plan ahead. I already
have a TON of clothes. Don’t
tell my husband I said that because I always like having more. I’m a girl who loves clothing, of
course I always want more! Anyways, I saw the skirt, and I went o Hobby Lobby
to look at something for a completely different project, but I always have to
stop by the fabric to see if there is anything I can’t live without, and of course,
there was.
I got
this gem at Hobby Lobby, and it was on sale for 40% off.
Sorry for the crummy pictures. I took them on my bathroom counter with my phone, and sent them to my mom and sister. Not the best quality, but you get the idea. Picture !: on my counter. My mom said, "Cute skirt! Get off the counter, CRAZY!!!", Picture 2: the bow/sash.
I bought 2 and ¼ yards,
and decided to make the skirt I saw on Pinterest; except I made it
pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and post pregnancy friendly. Here’s how:
I laid
the fabric out flat on the floor. I measured from my waist, or where I wanted
it on my waist to the length I desired. I love long long skirts so I can wear
heels. You can always shorten them as well. So measured my fabric and added an
inch and a ¼, for the
waist and hem, of the length I wanted my skirt to be. Then I cut a line
straight across the fabric. Pin the open side up with the wrong side of the
fabric facing inward. Sew up the seam. Then Iron the seam open. Fold the top of
your fabric in inch to make a pocket for an ELEASTIC band and pin all the way
around the skirt leaving a 2 inch opening at the end to thread your elastic
through. Sew that seam up, remembering your two inch opening.
Measure
your waist. Don’t forget
to NOT put your fingers under the elastic. Cut an extra ½ inch so you have a little room
to sew it up. Then attach a safety pin to the end of your elastic band. Thread
the elastic all the way through the pocket. Sew the elastic ends together. Then
sew up the little pocket in the top of your skirt.
Fold over
the bottom of your skirt and pin, evenly, around the bottom of the skirt then
sew all the way around the bottom creating your hem.
I wanted
a fun sash as well. I decided I wanted mine to be about 6 inches wide. So, I
cut a 6 and a ½ inch
strip to the length I wanted my sash to be tied in a bow. I cut some tan muslin
to be the same length. Again, sew the inside of the fabrics together leaving
both ends open. Once they are sewn together, turn the fabric strips right side
out. Iron your sash to create a nice flat sash. Fold the end in about a ¼ inch and sew them up creating a
hem. Put your skirt on and tie your sash around the top, and your skirt is
done. I also thought about using satin ribbon as the sash, but I couldn’t find one thick enough. I hope
you enjoy this super simple skirt. I have had several compliments on it, so I
thought I would pass on the fun. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Could I be the stalker mom from your school waiting for you to post this DARLING skirt?:) Thanks so much for posting it!! I'm sure mine won't turn out as cute as yours but I'm going to give it a try:) THANKS!!!
