Felt Flowers

Im an Activity Days leader in our church. So, two times a month we get together, two other leaders and 3-10 10 and 11 year old, and have a spiritual thought and do some sort of super fun activity. This first activity of the month we thought it would be fun to do something for Mothers Day.

When I was a little tyke, my mom always wore a corsage on Mothers Day. So, we thought making felt flowers would be a fun and easy activity for giving to our mothers as a gift for Mothers Day. I have seen girls wear felt flowers in their hair or on their dresses before and I thought they were very cute. So, recently, I stopped a girl at an event I was at for work, and asked if I could see her cute flower. She said sure and was telling me where she got it and how much she paid for it, about $5. I was shocked because they are so easy to make, and cost far less than $5. Thats me, always looking for a way to save money. If I can make it for less I would prefer to. So I got the supplies

and here are the results.

First, you need to cut out circles. I used a cup as my stencil. My husband LOVES to drink out of cheap plastic cups. So, for him I have the 6 for $1 Walmart cups. They worked perfectly for this project. I used a smaller sized cup. Keep in mind that the size of your circle will be the size of the flower. Your flower can really be any size you would like

For a full flower you need 6 circle. For the not so full flower you will need 4, plus a little circle or bottom or something for the middle. For both you will need a circle for the back as well, at least I like to have one.

After you have cut out your circles, fold one of the circles in half and hot glue it closed. I like putting one small dot of hot glue on each side of my finger, which is gently hold the circle in half, so I can still fold the circle again easily. (You can also stitch them together instead. I just happened to have my hot glue gun out already.)

So, now fold the half circle in half, and glue that closed. Your petals should now look like this

I like gluing all of my petals first, and then gluing them together just at the side. I only put a little bit of the hot glue at the base of one side and connected it with another petal. (So, you have two petals together)

Then I did the same with the other two petals.

Now that you have two sets of petals you need to glue those together. (You can also just glue the petals straight on to the backing circle. I just like how it looked when they were glued together first)

Now that all of your petals are glued together you need to glue the back circle on to the back of the petals.

If you would like to have the less full flower you just need to put a circle or button in the middle and glue it down and your flower is done.

If you would prefer to have the fuller flower, take your glue gun and put a dollop of glue in the middle of you petals that are all glued together, about the size of a small pea.  Then take both of your remaining petals and put them in the middle of your other petals and place accordingly.

Now you have your beautiful flower. You can put a pin on the back to make it into a corsage or brooch or you can put a barrette on the back for a hair clip. I hope you enjoy. If you have any questions please let me know.
