TONS has been going on and I will fill you in with all about
the glorious hot mess that is our life in my next post. For this one I wanted
to tell you a little about frogs and Prince Charming. We have to go all the way
back to when I was learning to walk….
My grandma had a tri-level house in Huntington Beach, CA and
we were there A LOT! I would always try to go upstairs, but could never get
back down. There was also the worry that I would fall down the stairs trying to
get down. So, my grandma would put this little rubber frog on the 3rd
step of the stair case. I was petrified of it! I would walk by and then run
away. It worked great for a while! Then I picked up my big girl panties and
started sneaking past it. So my family upped the ante. They got a motion sensor frog. It would ribbet
any time someone would pass by. Well, that did it! Good thing I was still in
diapers because that thing scared me to pieces. Needless to say, I was not a
huge fan of frogs for a long time. I still don’t like real frogs.
Anyways, the rule in my house was I wasn’t allowed to date
until I was 16. I got my first boyfriend, and then he left on a mission for our
church and was going to be gone for 2 years. It was difficult at the time, but
he told me I should date while he was gone and we could see how things went
when he got back. He got back and it didn’t work out. END OF THE WORLD, at the
time. I moved on pretty quickly, and, well, over the next several years I dated
a lot, got my heart broken a lot,
and met a lot of frogs. ***Disclaimer: They were frogs for me, not frogs for
everyone. So, every time I would tell my mom about a guy I was dating and
really liked she would be excited for me, like any mom. When the relationship
would end, she was sad with me, also like any mom. She would send me a little
frog. My sister jumped on the frog band wagon very quickly and would send frog
stuff all the time because she never knew when I was dating someone. Now I have
stuffed animal frogs, crystal frogs, blankets with frogs, cross stitched frog
stuff, etc. Here are a couple...
See the irony with my childhood experience? Anyways, she would
always say “It’s ok honey, you have to kiss some frogs before you find your
prince. He’ll come someday.” He obviously did! My mom made a joke just before
My husband and I got married that now I don’t have to get anything else with
frogs on it. I haven’t either!
What a cute Prince Charming he is as well..... |
Funny enough though. When I was pregnant with Kensington,
one of my husband’s students gave us a cute little outfit for her that is a
bright yellow, I love bright colors. I fell in love with it before I fully
opened it. When I opened it all the way I noticed a big bright green frog right
on the front of the romper. I started cracking up and sent a picture to my mom
and sister right away.
And so it's already beginning. This cute little miss wont
be kissing any frogs for a long time though.
For now it’s just going to be
kisses from mommy and daddy.
P.S. I do like my frogs that my fam bam has sent me. No fear
of frogs anymore.
Are you scared of any kind of animal? If so, what caused it?
Did your parents ever comfort you in a funny way when you
broke up with someone?
When I was a young adult, my Dad would give me a valentines card every year signed "Love, Whats his name" it always made my day. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! Something else to remember when Kens gets older.
